A long, long time ago (the fall of 1988), when our beloved
pastor, Jeff Bills, was still just a wet-behind-the-ears associate
minister at Haddonfield UMC in South Jersey, he decided to
take a drive through a new development.
"Main
Street" was supposed to be a throwback to the era when
people could walk to the store, walk to school,
maybe even to work. But as Jeff was watching all the construction,
he realized one big piece of the old hometown way of life
was missing: a church.
Over
the next several months, Jeff kept hearing a message in his
heart: “If you build it, they will come.”
Now
Jeff (who had needed a lot of convincing that God really wanted
him in the ministry to begin with) kept thinking God was dialing
a wrong number. After all, what did he know about starting
a church, let alone growing a church?
